A potent winter storm is sweeping through four U.S. states, causing winter conditions and travel difficulties. The state’s weather authority urges caution and readiness. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a fierce winter storm will bring risky icing, powerful winds, and unsafe travel circumstances to areas of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania until Thursday.

The NWS added that ice buildup of as much as half an inch, along with wind gusts reaching 35 mph, might result in perilous roads, extensive power failures, and downed trees.

The alerts apply to north-central and western Maryland, northwest Virginia, eastern and panhandle West Virginia, and central and western Pennsylvania, where freezing rain, sleet, and snow will create dangerous situations. Authorities warn that roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, could become slippery and blocked, while significant ice accumulation may harm power lines and trees, raising the likelihood of outages.

Locals are strongly encouraged to refrain from traveling unless essential. Those who need to drive should pack emergency items, proceed carefully, and allow additional time. Officials also suggest preparing for potential prolonged power interruptions by gathering necessary supplies.
