Fu Music says Fong ‘left the world peacefully’ on February 21 after five years of fighting illness with a ‘positive attitude’
Fu Music confirmed on Saturday that Fong “left the world peacefully” on February 21 after fighting an illness for five years with what it called a positive attitude.
On February 13, a week before he died, Fong published his final Instagram post as he sent Lunar New Year greetings to his fans and promoted the music video for his new song “Oasis” on his latest 10-track album, The Dreamer.
Born in 1983 in the American state of Hawaii, Fong was exposed to Chinese culture and introduced to a wide range of musical genres, including soul, funk and jazz, at a young age by his father.
He lived in Guangdong province in mainland China and Shanghai before moving to Hong Kong in the late 1990s.
Fong gained recognition in the Chinese market for his R&B and soul-inflected style after releasing his debut album Soulboy in 2005 with the popular song “Spring Breeze”.
