Police have said the body of nine-month-old Oliver Cox was found in the Trinity River in Big Flat, northern California in a tragic update on Tuesday.
‘During the search efforts, an out-of-the-area diver who had travelled to the location to assist in the search located Oliver deceased and submerged in the river,’ the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office said.
‘Deputies who were in the area searching for Oliver were contacted and responded to the scene. Oliver was removed from the river and his family notified.
‘Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Oliver.’
The police search was assisted by Search and Rescue teams from Shasta and Trinity counties, Cal OES, the California Highway Patrol, the US Coast Guard and CalFire.
Oliver was traveling in a Lexus sedan with his mother, 19, and father, 21, as they drove on State Route 299 in the early hours of May 1, Keith Krick from the California Highway Patrol told McClatchy News.
His mother was driving when the car ‘traveled off the road, down an embankment and into the Trinity River,’ he said.
